“Innovation is not just about technology. It’s about how it improves everyday life.” No, it wasn’t this byline that convinced me not to click the “Skip Ad” button in Samsung’s advertisement. It was the familiar sound that I normally hear from iPhone’s official videos–a tune composed by Rob Simonsen. So I told myself, maybe it’s worth while to watch the entire commercial and discover why my friends are so eager in getting the Galaxy S5.
Watching the first few seconds of the ad made me hoping to see the Home button of the phone to float in midair and disassemble itself to show that it’s made up of sapphire crystal, one of the clearest and hardest material available. Fortunately, it didn’t happen.
The phone seems to be a well-thought-out device. I am enticed by its camera features: far focus, near focus, and the fastest auto-focus ever. The Fitness and Wellness and Heart Rate Monitor are great additions that will definitely improve our everyday life. I am not so sure if the fingerprint sensor works as conveniently as iPhone’s. My previous experience with laptops where you have to swipe your finger to a sensor was not that effective, but I’ll give S5 a chance to prove me wrong.
The ad would have been at par with Apple’s except that there were some parts where it wasn’t able to fully translate the phone’s advance features into common terms which a layman would understand.
1. 5.1″ Full HD Super AMOLED display with more intelligent Adaptive display
Will this be the same by saying, “It’s like holding a real flower except that you’re viewing it at a screen about the size of your palm”? You’ll feel same visual experience as being in the mountain because of its super clear display.
2. Longer Battery Life (2800 mAH)
I understand what this means because I am familiar with electronics, but for someone with no electrical background, wouldn’t it be easier to say: Your fingers will get tired playing Flappy Bird before the phone’s battery even dies, or You can watch the latest episode of Tomorrow People while doing a Skype call in the background using the 4G network and your phone will still have enough juice to play some upbeat songs for tonight’s party.
3. 2.5GHz Quad Core Processor ….LTE Cat. 4
In simple terms, Imagine your gaming laptop shrank to this phone and if it takes you 30 mins to download an episode of Helix, here it will only be 15 mins. Assuming you’re PC is not connected to a fiber network. 😉
I am sure Samsung Galaxy S5 is a great phone. Although, I’ll still stick to my iPhone because big phones don’t really appeal to me. But then again, if it’s going to be given for free, who am I to be fussy?
