My first day started with heavy rain and loud thunders from Singapore. I got worried because I thought it would be tough to hail a taxi and might miss my flight. Luckily, I managed to get one and arrived at the airport an hour earlier. The fare was a pain in my wallet because of the 50% midnight charge, $22.35!
The flight from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh was on time. Actually, a stopover in HCM wasn’t planned but because Jetstar cancelled all direct flights from Singapore to Hanoi, they had to reroute it. It was a blessing in disguise because my colleague Cuong is in HCM at that time so he helped me get a good exchange rate for my Singapore dollars, brought me a delicious Boon Tit Neung and gave me (for free) a sim Viettel card with a 1-month unlimited internet access. 🙂 The flight from HCM to Hanoi was delayed for one hour though. It’s JetstarPacific BL798. 🙂
If you are planning to take the airport bus from Hanoi airport to the Vietnam Airlines office, you can purchase the ticket before the plane lands. The crew in our flight was selling each ticket for 40,000 VND. This is much cheaper than if you are going to take a taxi, which would normally cost $18-$25 USD. 40,000 VND is almost equivalent to $2USD. 🙂
When I stepped out of the airport, I got confused as to which bus to take. If you bought the Jetstar Pacific Bus Ticket, make sure that you take the Jetstar bus. It is a the right side of the airport (left side if you are facing the entrance). There are mini-buses which costs the same as the Jetstar bus.
There are signboards right outside the airport that shows the cost of a taxi and a mini-bus.
