Last week, my friend Gay asked me if I would like to come to her company’s open-house party. I remember the convincing phrase from her was, “we have abundant food and free flow of wine BUT you have to blog about it.” It wasn’t a difficult decision to make, first, we know that the best things in life are free and second, I love to blog so it’s a real win-win situation. 🙂

The party was hosted by the Transworld Group Singapore. It’s a company focused on providing total logistics solutions. It has four subsidiaries:
Each subsidiary is a pride on its own. OEL for example has been selected 5 years in a row as the top 50 private companies in Singapore.
It is a two-day open-house party. The first day was open for the customers and clients of BLPL Singapore while the second day was for both OEL and BLPL. The party started around 4 in the afternoon and lasted until there’s still wine in the room, around 9 PM. I am fortunate to be acuquainted to Gay’s bosses. I met his immediate boss, their CFO and even the CEO! They were all very cordial and accommodating. The CFO even asked me to join them for a drink. It was a 12-year old whisky…and I forgot the name, but it was smooth and clean.
You can feel that everyone in the company knows each other. Probably it’s because they are not really a big group, but still, the people seems to know each other very well–either that or Gay is just the Miss Congeniality in the office. Their office is also well kept and it is clearly visible that the bosses wanted their staff to have a healthy work-life balance. They have their own gym which at first I thought Gay was only joking when she said she goes to the gym “in the office”. Of course, if there’s a gym, there has to be shower rooms. Their lounge was very cozy. For me, its design is flexible enough to hold an informal meeting or simply a hangout for causal conversations.
The overall experience was great. It’s good to see and meet people who are holding high posts to be so humble and low profile. Not only did I get free food and drinks, I also learned alot from engaging and talking to the people there…the perks of being a wallblogger. 🙂
P.S. the title was inspired by the movie the Perks of a Wallflower. If you haven’ watched the movie, I suggest that you do so. It’s a unique movie and is of good taste. 🙂
